Jamaica police nab one of US Marshals most wanted
A Jamaican national, who United States authorities said committed one of the most heinous crimes in recent history, has been captured by authorities in his home country. The US Marshals Department of Justice website revealed that David James Clarke, 26, who was in April added to their ‘15 Most Wanted Fugitive’ list for his alleged participation in the June 2007 murders of a young South Florida couple, was held on Wednesday. He is being kept at a high-security facility in Kingston until his extradition to face first-degree murder charges.
A release from the department said that Jamaica Constabulary Force and Jamaican Defence Force members made the arrest at a residence in the south east parish of St. Catherine’s around 5:30 a.m.
“Clarke was subdued after a brief struggle and later transported to a high-security prison facility in Kingston,”
It is alleged that on June 16, 2007, Mr Clarke and two other assailants, Clinton Dinnall and Anthony Bennett, waited for Chris Thompson and Cassandra Williams at the couple’s residence in Lauderhill, then shot and killed them.
The alleged assassins then stuffed the couple’s bodies in the trunk of a car and abandoned the vehicle in Sunrise, Florida, where authorities made the discovery. Mr Bennett and Mr Dinnall were arrested a few weeks later and charged with first-degree murder.
